Pink Cocaine, thought to have originated in Colombia, has hit the US drug market. This designer drug is becoming a new trend throughout the country, especially in the nightclub scenes. Users of this dangerous psychedelic drug frequently purchase the product online or from social media apps.
What is Pink Cocaine?
Pink Cocaine, also referred to as flavored cocaine typically contains at least one stimulant and one depressant, but interestingly, does not contain cocaine. The combination of drugs usually found in pink cocaine includes Ketamine (this is a dissociative anesthetic with hallucinogenic effects), MDMA (Ecstasy), Methamphetamine, benzodiazepines, caffeine, and Crack. To get the pink color, the cocktail will include some type of pink food coloring and sometimes a strawberry flavoring. Its gained notoriety in the drug communities as a popular party drug and has recently exploded into the news after it was revealed that former One Direction singer Liam Payne had pink cocaine in his system when he died. Furthermore, accusations that Sean” Diddy” Combs had this drug readily available at his “Diddy Parties” have been circulating in the media. As the popularity for this specific designer drug increases, Law enforcement has been reporting they are frequently starting to see fentanyl being added to the pink cocaine mixture.
Law Enforcement Response to Pink Cocaine
In the US, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) now considers pink cocaine to be a rising concern for the agency. In May 2024, the United States Coast Guard had a report of a seizure that included large batches of pink cocaine attempting to be imported off the coast of Mexico, Central America and South America. This is a clear indication that the cartels are getting involved with pink cocaine and it is no longer made by the local dealers. Once Law enforcement seizes the drug, it will be sent off to a formal lab to conduct extensive testing to determine the contents for purposes of filing criminal charges.
